Solar technician diagnosing a wall-mounted string inverter at a Bali property

Panels last twenty-five years; inverters do not. As the person who commissions our systems, I tell every client at handover: the inverter is the working heart of the installation, switching thousands of times a second in a hot, humid box on your wall, and it will need attention within its lifetime. In Bali it needs it sooner — humidity creeps into seals, geckos nest in ventilation slots, and wet-season lightning sends surges down both the DC and AC sides. The good news: most 'dead system' calls we attend are fixable the same visit, and half of them are not the inverter's fault at all.

What's Included

Diagnostics & Error Codes

We read the fault log, test DC strings and AC supply, and tell you exactly what failed — isolation faults, grid-voltage trips, fan failures, blown SPDs or genuine power-stage death. Photo of the error screen gets a preliminary diagnosis on WhatsApp.

Warranty Claims Handling

Growatt, Deye and SMA units within warranty: we run the manufacturer's diagnostic protocol, file the claim with the distributor and install the replacement unit when it lands — you do not fight the paperwork.

Replacement & Upgrades

When a unit is beyond economic repair we swap it — like for like, or an upgrade to a hybrid model that accepts a battery, which is the moment many owners add blackout backup.

Surge Protection Rebuilds

After lightning events we replace sacrificed surge protection devices on both DC and AC sides and check string isolation — the cheap fix that prevents the expensive second strike.

Why Inverters Fail in Bali

Three killers, in order. Heat and humidity: an inverter mounted on a sun-struck west wall runs 15°C hotter than it should, and electrolytic capacitors age twice as fast for every 10°C — relocation alone can double remaining life. Lightning: Bali's wet season delivers some of the highest strike densities in the world; without surge protection devices, an induced surge along the DC cables takes the input stage with it. Bad installation: undersized DC cabling, loose AC terminals and missing ventilation gaps — we inherit a lot of systems built fast in the villa-boom years, and the inverter is where the shortcuts surface.

If your system is underproducing rather than dead, the inverter is only one suspect — dirty panels are statistically more likely, and our cleaning and maintenance service includes the string-level checks that separate the two. If your unit is an older grid-tie model and you have been considering blackout backup anyway, a failure is the economically perfect moment to upgrade to a hybrid inverter with battery storage instead of replacing like for like. And if the whole system was questionably built, a design review tells you what is worth saving.

How We Work

  1. WhatsApp the error

A photo of the display or app error code and your inverter model label. Most codes get a preliminary diagnosis within the hour.

  2. Diagnostic visit

Full DC and AC testing, fault-log readout and an honest verdict: repair, warranty claim or replacement, with fixed prices for each.

  3. Repair or swap

Repairs and SPD rebuilds usually complete the same visit. Replacements are installed and commissioned within days, warranty claims as soon as the distributor ships.

  4. Recommission and verify

Strings tested, monitoring reconnected, production verified against expectation — and advice on relocation or ventilation if heat shortened the last unit's life.

What It Costs

Diagnostic call-out is from IDR 750,000, credited against any repair we perform. SPD replacement from IDR 1,500,000. Replacement inverters: 3 kW string units from IDR 9,000,000 installed, 5 kW from IDR 13,000,000, hybrid upgrades from IDR 22,000,000. Warranty-claim handling is free when we supplied the system — see the pricing page.

Frequently Asked Questions

My inverter shows an error code — what should I do?
Photograph the display or app screen and send it on WhatsApp with the model name. Many codes — grid overvoltage, isolation warnings — have simple causes we can often identify remotely before any visit is booked.
How much does a replacement inverter cost in Bali?
A 3 kW string inverter from IDR 9,000,000 installed, 5 kW from IDR 13,000,000, hybrid battery-ready models from IDR 22,000,000. If your unit is under manufacturer warranty, you pay only our handling and installation.
Do you service brands other than Growatt, Deye and SMA?
Yes — we diagnose any string or hybrid inverter. For obscure brands without Indonesian distribution, repair parts can be impossible to source, in which case we will recommend the most economical replacement path honestly.
My system died after a thunderstorm — is it the inverter?
Often it is just the surge protection devices doing their job and sacrificing themselves, which is a cheap fix. We test the SPDs, strings and inverter input stage to find where the surge stopped. Systems without SPDs fare worse — we retrofit them as standard.
Can I upgrade to a hybrid inverter instead of replacing like for like?
Usually yes, and a failure is the cheapest moment to do it — you are paying for installation anyway. A hybrid unit plus battery gives you blackout backup; see battery storage for sizing and prices.
