Hybrid solar inverter and LiFePO4 battery bank installed at a Bali villa

Ask anyone who has lived through a wet-season evening in Canggu or up on the Bukit: PLN blackouts are not rare events, they are a weekly fact of life in parts of Bali. As the engineer who designs our systems, this is where I spend most of my time now — hybrid installations that keep the WiFi, fridge, lights and a bedroom AC running when the street goes dark. The grid-tied systems most installers sell shut down during a blackout for safety; a hybrid system with a battery does not. And for land beyond the grid — jungle plots near Ubud, cliff land west of Uluwatu — we design fully off-grid systems that replace PLN entirely.

What's Included

Hybrid Inverter

Deye and Growatt hybrid inverters (SMA for premium builds) that manage solar, battery and grid simultaneously and switch to backup in under 20 milliseconds — your computer never notices.

LiFePO4 Battery Bank

Lithium iron phosphate batteries rated for 6,000+ cycles, sized to your essential loads. Safe chemistry that tolerates Bali's 30°C+ ambient temperatures far better than older lithium types.

Essential-Load Panel

We split your distribution board so the battery carries what matters — lights, fridge, WiFi, pumps, selected AC — instead of draining itself on the pool heater.

Generator Integration

For full off-grid systems, a small genset wired in as automatic third backup for the rare week of solid rain. It might run twenty hours a year, but those are the right twenty hours.

Hybrid or Fully Off-Grid — Which Do You Need?

If PLN already reaches your property, a hybrid system is almost always the right answer: solar covers the day, the battery covers the evening and blackouts, and the grid remains as cheap backup for the rainy week. You keep the bill savings of a grid-tied installation and add independence on top. Going fully off-grid while the grid sits at your gate means paying for battery and generator capacity you rarely use.

Fully off-grid makes sense in exactly two cases: PLN does not reach your land, or the connection offered is so weak (single phase, brownouts, 900 VA) that building on it is pointless. Then we design from scratch: a 7-day load audit, solar array sized for the worst month not the best, a battery bank with two days of autonomy, and a genset for insurance. The honest comparison — with numbers — is in our article on-grid vs off-grid in Bali, and sizing starts with our load calculation service.

How We Work

  1. Tell us what must stay on

On WhatsApp: which loads matter during a blackout, how long outages last in your area, and your PLN bill if you have one.

  2. Load audit and design

We measure or model your consumption hour by hour, then size the array, inverter and battery to carry your essential loads through a realistic outage — not a marketing number.

  3. Installation in 3–5 days

Panels, hybrid inverter, battery bank, essential-load panel rewiring and protection. Off-grid builds with generator integration take about a week.

  4. Live test before we leave

We pull the main breaker and walk the house with you while it runs on battery. You see exactly what stays on and for how long.

What It Costs

A villa hybrid system — 5 kWp of panels with a 10 kWh LiFePO4 bank — starts from IDR 95,000,000 installed. Larger 8 kWp / 15 kWh hybrids run from IDR 145,000,000. Full off-grid systems with two days of autonomy and generator integration start around IDR 220,000,000 depending on loads. Adding a battery to an existing grid-tied system is often possible too — see battery storage and the pricing page for details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between hybrid and off-grid?
A hybrid system keeps your PLN connection and uses it as backup; the battery covers evenings and blackouts. An off-grid system has no PLN at all — solar, battery and usually a small generator carry everything. If the grid reaches your property, hybrid is nearly always the better value.
How long will the battery run my villa during a blackout?
A 10 kWh bank typically carries lights, fridge, WiFi, fans and one inverter AC for 6–10 hours. We size the bank to your actual essential loads, and we test it live with the main breaker pulled before handover.
Can I go completely off-grid in Bali?
Technically yes, and we build such systems for land without a PLN connection. But if PLN already reaches you, full independence costs roughly double a hybrid for marginal benefit — we will show you both numbers and let you decide.
Do I still need a generator?
For hybrid systems, no — the grid is your backup. For fully off-grid properties we strongly recommend a small genset as third-layer insurance for a week of solid rain. It runs a few hours a year, but those hours matter.
Can my existing grid-tied system be upgraded?
Often yes. If your inverter is a recent Growatt or Deye model we may add a battery directly; otherwise we add an AC-coupled battery unit or swap the inverter for a hybrid. Details on the battery storage page.
